CAROL PRUSA: OPTIC NERVE

Florida artist Carol Prusa’s labor-intensive works begin with specifically crafted acrylic domes, which she then intricately details with ground graphite and fine silverpoint—an ancient technique popular in the early Renaissance involving the use of a silver-tipped stylus on a prepared surface. Works can take upwards of 500 hours to complete, something Prusa describes as a personal commitment to a deeply meditative process.

Prusa’s strong interest in science and background in bio-communications and medical illustration have led her to explore themes of nature, geometry, anatomy, and metaphysics. Her works allude to vast universes and heavenly bodies as well as microscopic views of plants and the internal workings of the human brain.
