NATURAL OBSERVATIONS
July 12–October 11, 2009
Jan Serr, Opening (detail), oil on linen.
Celebrate the beauty of nature with this summer's exhibition at the ARTspace gallery in Kohler Village. Natural Observations features large-scale paintings, unique mixed media work, and striking enameled jewelry and vessels by local and national artists.
Milwaukee artist Jan Serr uses her brush to explore the delicate interplay between light and movement. Her luscious oil paintings and hand-painted monotypes capture the brilliant effects of sunlight dancing across fresh, blooming foliage. Also local to Wisconsin, artists Joanna Poehlmann and Lynne Railsback observe the curious intricacies of flora and fauna in mixed media and carefully studied watercolors creations. Arizona artist Charity Hall presents fine enamelware bowls, brooches and pendants whose playful images of flowers and insects recall Thoreau's Walden.
All works in this exhibition are available for purchase with proceeds from sales going toward the support of the Arts Center and its educational mission.
In addition to its exhibitions, the ARTspace shop features handmade gifts by more than 200 North American artists. Ask how you can receive an additional $10 in Art Smackeroos! Art Smackeroos can be spent on almost anything at the Arts Center, from Summer Theatre and Footlights, to Arts Day Camp for your child, as well as at the ARTspace Shops and ARTcafé. As always, Arts Center members receive a 10% discount on all purchases.
